I really am a beginner when it comes to photography so, during the course of what was a very enjoyable day, David patiently explained the functions of my camera and showed me how using them can create better pictures. I'm pretty sure I won't be shooting in automatic again!!
Really enjoyed my day with Dave on the Robin Hoods Bay workshop. Apart from being a good instructor and an enthusiastic coach; he is one of those guys who has the ability to put you at ease as soon as you meet. Dave knows the location well which allowed us to visit a number of different areas during the day. I would recommend a workshop with Dave to everyone.
My wife Deb and I spent 2 days with David on the Yorkshire coast around Whitby area at the end of March 2019. We were picked up at silly o'clock to be on location for sunrise and stayed out until sunset. As the clocks went forward that night we asked David for a slightly later start the next morning, all locations, times and breaks for refreshment were highly flexible. It was just the 2 of us on the workshop. Deb had next to no experience of using a DSLR, I have a reasonable amount, although not landscape. So our needs were very different. David did an excellent job of working between us both and whilst Deb became more confident working in manual mode on the basics, I also got the opportunity to listen in, and re-learning some of the basics. I found this to be a very valuable as I had forgotten a lot or not learnt it in the first place. We now have experience and greater confidence in using our cameras in manual, using filters, slow exposure, how to better frame and compose landscape shots, as well some very good advice in how to process using Lightroom and Photoshop. Thank you David, we had a great time and hope to share some more time with you.
I spent last Friday with David up near Malham. I am a complete novice at photography. I felt a bit overwhelmed by the amount of information David gave me but I have retained much more than I expected. I have taken photographs every day since I returned. I am borrowing a camera from my husband who is a keen photographer and we now intend to make it a joint hobby. Much to my surprise, a real interest was sparked off by David. I would highly recommend him. His knowledge is amazing and he is a very easy person to spend time with. I'll be booking another workshop when I develop more expertise, meanwhile the beautiful autumn weather is an inspiration.
It was my first ever 1-1 and I found it a very good day with David. He didn't use his camera all day but concentrated on helping me fill in some gaps in my knowledge. I've been taking photos for years now and wanted someone to help fill in the gaps in my knowledge. He explained the mysteries of hyperfocal and tilt shift focusing techniques to me clearly and with enthusiasm in a way that I could understand, even though it was -1 and icy while we were sitting on limestone pavement on a blustery January afternoon. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm.
Thanks so much for the Yorkshire Dales one to one workshop on Saturday, I really enjoyed it. The locations you took us to were superb and the help and advice you offered was excellent. The way the day was split up made it feel like we were there for longer than we really were. I’m just working through my photos now and am really pleased with them. I think we’d both really like to come back up in the Autumn and spend some more time with you doing another workshop. I recently completed a 3 day course in the Yorkshire Dales, and it was great. I'm not a beginner, and I've been using DSLR's for 15 years or so. But David taught me a lot of new techniques and introduced me to half a dozen features that I've never used on my camera before. And even though the course was mixed ability I always felt that I had personal attention, and suggestions. He also knew all the best spots to go to across the whole range of weather that we had, from gusty sunshine to pouring rain (and the best places for breakfast...). I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend David to anyone looking to take their next step in photography. It's reawakened my interest, and I'm back out there trying things out.
After a long delay due to Covid restrictions, David and I finally got together for a Basics for beginners one to one workshop. I thought I knew how to use a camera, but how wrong I was. I could ramble on about how much I learnt, but if like me, you love taking pictures, but are disappointed with the results, then this workshop is for you. David made me a promise at the start of the day, that by the time my workshop was finished, I would never use the 'Auto' setting again on any camera. He was right. I ended the day with some of the best pictures I have ever taken, and a lot of new knowledge. David is a patient man, and delivers the workshop in a very practical style.
I cannot recommend the beginners photography course with David highly enough, from the ease of booking and payment to communication about the days logistics. Starting with explaining the basics of any DSLR camera to explaining the functions easily on our individual camera types. Demonstrations of equipment and technique was thorough and Davids knowledge and experience in his field are second to none. We were guided through some spectacular scenery and venues to try all sorts of different styles of photography, different subjects, lighting and locations. A full, fun packed immersive day with a professional. I may not have had a clue about my new hobby before I went, but after my workshop I have a good overview of my equipment and the know how to go away and start practicing. Nothing was too much trouble to explain and no question too silly, I ABSOLUTELY loved every minute! I will be back! Thank you David for igniting a new hobby and passion in me! Hi Dave, Just wanted to say thanks for a great day on your Malham workshop, it was good to have another persons view on things and the different techniques you showed me for different situations came in very handy.
