Thank you for a brilliant day in the Hebden Bridge area. Part of a group of 4, Davids enthusiasm and obvious passion for photography was clear. He took his time with everyone, answering any number of questions and took us to numerous different locations to get good shots. He is such a professional but has a refreshing, easy going approach that made it such an enjoyable experience. I most definitely came away from the day wanting to put everything into practise and learn more. Very highly recommended.
After a long delay due to Covid restrictions, David and I finally got together for a Basics for beginners one to one workshop. I thought I knew how to use a camera, but how wrong I was. I could ramble on about how much I learnt, but if like me, you love taking pictures, but are disappointed with the results, then this workshop is for you. David made me a promise at the start of the day, that by the time my workshop was finished, I would never use the 'Auto' setting again on any camera. He was right. I ended the day with some of the best pictures I have ever taken, and a lot of new knowledge. David is a patient man, and delivers the workshop in a very practical style.
I recently had a 1 to 1 with David over two days. It was great to get back out once again after the COVID-19 pandemic with my camera but wasn’t sure what to expect. It was very quiet and we hardly saw anyone else. David was very professional, we kept our 2 metre social distance and both used hand sanitisers. If any fine adjustments were needed he just talked me through any alterations with my camera at a safe distance. I had two fantastic days and I would recommend David to help you get the best out of photography at all levels. Thanks again David, you made me feel so relaxed and more confident during these surreal times. I cannot wait for my next 1 to 1 with him.
It was my first ever 1-1 and I found it a very good day with David. He didn't use his camera all day but concentrated on helping me fill in some gaps in my knowledge. I've been taking photos for years now and wanted someone to help fill in the gaps in my knowledge. He explained the mysteries of hyperfocal and tilt shift focusing techniques to me clearly and with enthusiasm in a way that I could understand, even though it was -1 and icy while we were sitting on limestone pavement on a blustery January afternoon. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm.
Many thanks for an excellent two day workshop in the Lake District. It was not solely about composition and technical development ( and it was very much tailored to individual needs) but also the introduction of some stunning new locations and view points for me. I cannot recommend this weekend enough.
I thoroughly enjoyed my workshop in Malham with David. He gave me loads of useful tips and advice on composition and getting the most out of my camera. His knowledge of the area is second to none and we visited some fantastic locations I’d never have found on my own. His amiable nature made it a real pleasure to spend the day with him and I’ve come away with so much more confidence and enthusiasm for landscape photography. I would definitely recommend David’s workshops for photographers of all abilities.
I ordered two large mounted prints from David and am thrilled with the quality of the photos and David’s service. The photos arrived carefully packaged and within a week. I had a couple of queries when buying them and he was able to respond to my emails quickly making the service really personal. I have already recommended David’s photographs to friends and I will certainly be back for more prints in the future.
I imagined that on my first workshop it would be mostly showing me how to work the camera and use manual setting, de-mystifying focus, iso and exposure. This was the case but alongside the technical aspects of using a camera I was also getting a lot of information about how to look at landscapes. I had no idea how to see an image. David showed me how to make the best of an area and I came away with an image I now have on my wall. I have been on several trips with David now, from the Yorkshire coast to the Wolds from a hike up the hills to exploring a waterfall. David is patient and knowledgeable, he makes you see in a different way. Generous with his knowledge, and locations. David has helped me see there is much more to learn and he has a passion for the landscape that is infectious. I have learned more in a day with David than I have reading loads of books on landscape photography. There is no substitute for getting out there and wrestling with the conditions presented to you by nature and no better companion than David to show you the way. Michael White
A great 1-1 day during which I learnt a huge amount from David and we went to some excellent photographic locations in Northumberland that I'd not been to before. Up to now I've just used basic techniques but I now understand a lot more about my camera and how to get the best out of manual settings, as well as finding out how long exposure settings and filters can enhance shots. Highly recommended.
A great day out leading to a lot more confidence! My husband booked the beginners' workshop for me and I was pretty nervous, as well as excited, about it. I shouldn't have worried! David uses a pre-questionnaire to gauge your experience- I joked to friends that the only question I was confident to answer was the one about the camera itself - but it turns out, I was wrong about that as well! So you can understand that I was a total beginner! But after a quick chat and some camera basics, we were off and photographing! We visited great locations, I learned how to put the discussions into action and it was easy to experiment and see the impact of making changes. After lunch, David encouraged me to start experimenting myself with the choice of subjects, which felt great. I came away, with my expectations more than met, some great pictures and the understanding and enthusiasm to take my new hobby to the next stage. If you are considering one of David's courses, go on, give it a go!
Well David, I have found time to sit down and thank you for a great day out at Malham in early February. When I say early I also mean early in the morning. The day was absolutely brilliant. You pitched the day just right for my knowledge. I now have more confidence when using my camera on ‘manual’ mode.
