I spent last Friday with David up near Malham. I am a complete novice at photography. I felt a bit overwhelmed by the amount of information David gave me but I have retained much more than I expected. I have taken photographs every day since I returned. I am borrowing a camera from my husband who is a keen photographer and we now intend to make it a joint hobby. Much to my surprise, a real interest was sparked off by David. I would highly recommend him. His knowledge is amazing and he is a very easy person to spend time with. I'll be booking another workshop when I develop more expertise, meanwhile the beautiful autumn weather is an inspiration.

I recently completed a 3 day course in the Yorkshire Dales, and it was great. I'm not a beginner, and I've been using DSLR's for 15 years or so. But David taught me a lot of new techniques and introduced me to half a dozen features that I've never used on my camera before. And even though the course was mixed ability I always felt that I had personal attention, and suggestions. He also knew all the best spots to go to across the whole range of weather that we had, from gusty sunshine to pouring rain (and the best places for breakfast...). I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend David to anyone looking to take their next step in photography. It's reawakened my interest, and I'm back out there trying things out.

David thank you for a fabulous day in the Yorkshire dales. I was lucky to get a 1-2-1 session and being new to photography you certainly showed me the basics of what a DSLR camera does, how to use it and how to get the maximum out of a fantastic piece of engineering. You certainly know your stuff and where the best spots are. I had a fantastic day and I really appreciate your patience with my basic understanding, hopefully you will agree I did get the hang of it and took some good pics. For anyone contemplating a photography course or workshop, I cannot recommend David enough. There is no better way than getting out there and getting hands on with a camera in the environment you are going to shoot. I am now planning to book on one of David’s extended workshops hopefully in the Lakes or Scotland now that I have purchased my own equipment. I have just returned from a one day workshop in the Yorkshire Dales, where it threw it down and blew a gale all day. Despite this, I had a great time thanks to David Speight, my instructor. David is a very talented photographer, but his knowledge of the subject and calm patience also make him a great teacher. He knows the Yorkshire Dales like the back of his hand and so we were able to switch location several times during the day to make the most of the bad weather. Throughout the day, David made every effort to ensure I met all of my objectives from the workshop, he clearly cares about his clients satisfaction. I left with some great shots, but also with the confidence to go and develop my skills further on my own. Having said that, there is always more to learn and so I will be looking forward to my next workshop with David, maybe during a spell of better weather.

Just returned from a weekend workshop with David in the Dales. Challenging weather conditions but Davids knowledge of the Dales meant we could still photograph interesting sites. The first time I have been on a workshop when the guide leaves his own camera behind, meaning that he is concentrating on helping his guests learn new skills in both camera technique and composition. I imagined that on my first workshop it would be mostly showing me how to work the camera and use manual setting, de-mystifying focus, iso and exposure. This was the case but alongside the technical aspects of using a camera I was also getting a lot of information about how to look at landscapes. I had no idea how to see an image. David showed me how to make the best of an area and I came away with an image I now have on my wall. I have been on several trips with David now, from the Yorkshire coast to the Wolds from a hike up the hills to exploring a waterfall. David is patient and knowledgeable, he makes you see in a different way. Generous with his knowledge, and locations. David has helped me see there is much more to learn and he has a passion for the landscape that is infectious. I have learned more in a day with David than I have reading loads of books on landscape photography. June 2021. I have just returned from my first 1-2-1 tuition workshop with David in Swaledale. David, Many thanks for organising the week long trip to Scotland. How you manage to organise a dry Scotland with blue skies for a whole week in November is a mystery to me but you achieved it. It is a credit to yourself and the dedication you put into preparing your workshops that for such a distant location you were able to take us to ideal spots in the middle of nowhere to take shots of breath taking scenery in both Glencoe and on the Isle of Eigg.
